Wait, what were we arguing about?

Since I have the week off, I decided to watch TLC's Wedding Story. Oh my, that shit is not realistic. The problem I have with this show are the stories about how these couples get engaged. It is always the most elaborate bunch of crap. You know where the guy takes his girl on a horse-drawn carriage, and it is usually snowing with soft orchestra music playing...blah blah blah. Well I am here to tell you, not every engagement will be that way. And if you are expecting an engagement like this, you need to write a script for your man. Otherwise, it probably will not happen.
Example:
Before I got engaged I knew I would have all of this. Guess what, I was wrong! For instance, six years ago we (my husband and I) were fighting about something stupid on the way to dinner. Then in the middle of the argument he asks," How much is a marriage certificate?" I responded gleefully,"Why, do you want to get married?" When he said yes, I was soo happy for the rest of the night. In fact, I didn't even care that he proposed without a ring.

However, I still like to rib him from time to time about his "f 'ed proposal." But I know that I have been blessed with a truly wonderful man, and all the frills are not what makes a great or long lasting marriage.

With that, I say a marriage should not be based on all the "stuff" but substance. So, dont worry if your proposal was not as grandiose as the next.

p.s. This engagement story pertains to other people I know- as well. They didn't have an elaborate proposal, but they are a couple built on substance and true love.
